This Saturday, August 17, 2024 staff members of AHEAD and its volunteers came together to harvest the African eggs plants planted in the backyard at 108 Neal Avenue, Dayton Ohio. Regarding the importance of farming activity, Mr Ruturwa mentioned that evidence shows that Immigrant farm workers make up an estimated 73% of agriculture workers in the United States. Farm labor is essential work that puts food on our tables across the country, powers the economy, and supports our communities. To help newcomers integrate into the economic sector, aahead.org initiated a program that brings native-born Americans and newcomers/immigrants to the US to grow vegetables including eggplants, beans, tomatoes, and onions. This initiative was successful because of the support of Montgomery County, Huber Heights City, and Unity garden. We are grateful to all partners for their support provided to the needy population especially the elderly population who were facilitated to gardening. We plan to extend this program to many families during the next season, reiterated the AHEAD officer.
